The theme of the international festival this year is China. They built a Great Wall and some replicas of the clay soldiers. There was the usual festival stuff - food from everywhere, trinkets for sale and roaming bands of performers. Stage performances that only a few thousand could see at once and smaller ones for more intimate viewing. We watched a troup of belly dancers and I looked away for one moment and my granddaughter had joined the troup and was being spun around by one of the bare footed beauties. Then more children crashed the party. The band got a little tired and finally ended it so we could move on. We took a place nearby to watch some Azerbaijanian dancers and I told M in no uncertain terms that she was not to climb onstage with these dancers as they were likely to be moving very fast and she might get hurt. She said okay dissapointedly. They were indeed fleet footed and with an agenda that did not include audience participation.
