my sleep number is O

There are no Radissons within 50 miles of here. The big weekend will need to be adjusted slightly. Good thing I haven't packed yet.

100 and counting

This is my 100th entry. I think I like blogging.

My daughter had a *girlie* day yesterday as she described it. She got her haircut and colored deep auburn. Got her ears repierced - only once in each this time and bought a whole new outfit for the party. She looked so great that no one at the party noticed I got four inches cut off my hair yesterday, too.
We had a great time at the big birthday party last night. Catered by Ninfa's- a local Tex-Mex place. Champagne, wine, cake, fajitas, chips, quacamole, queso, rice, beans.
Major good news/bad news: Hershey's has a dark chocolate kiss with truffle inside. Fortunately, I was seated one person away from the bowl and she being the saner of the two of us realized we were too close to eminent danger and only passed me one.
Grandbaby H attended the party and was a pretty good boy. After he got his dinner, he sat on my lap and talked and smiled and looked around for more than an hour. The only other kid at the party, a 13 year old boy rocked him in his carseat for a long time. Then about when people were finishing up dessert, H started crying. I walked him around. People offered to hold him, but he was having none of that. He wanted to walk around and his mom and I took turns rocking him till he fell asleep crying. So then we were able to enjoy another half hour and exit the party with some decorum. He is a fuss-myself-to-sleep kinda guy. He is trying to learn to suck his thumb but he is still at the holding hands in a fist stage and he's so fat, his arms don't reach his mouth easily. If you help him, he is happy to suck away instead of fuss. I love thumbsucking babies. Hate pacifers.
The gracious hostess for the party brought me a towel for the bed when I was changing his diaper. She got him to talk to her and she petted him and said, "we missed this." I let her talk, I've known her for years and never asked. Seems they wanted kids, but couldn't have them. I said, well, you just have to borrow them and she said friends had been very generous to share their kids with her. She is the honorary aunt to lots of kids. And she kinda bit her lip and left the room. It made me tear up. Makes me tear up now. I know I would be a different person if I had not had my daughter. And I would never trade this stage of my life with grandbabies for anything. The best part so far.
And the really great news - even though I ate and drank with abandon, I lost a pound this morning. The bodyguard gets a raise.

suddenly it's raining

and the sun is still shining out there. Good thing I finished my *sun* printing before lunch. I had no idea it was going to rain when I looked at the lawn and thought, hmmm, does it need water again! Yes, I guess it did. But I think I left the little wing windows open on the car. Bummer.
Movie Review: Go see Little Miss Sunshine. Just go. Laugh out loud funny. The teenager in it reminds me of my nephew W. But only in a good way. B thought of W also.
Then we did dinner at Friday's. The bodyguard is on duty again, now three days in a row. Even though there are chocolate frogs in the freezer.
Been working on things for the fall sale. Taking too much time for too little money - again.
So now in the time it has taken to type this and I do 80 wpm, the rain has stopped pouring down. I'll go out and dry off the back seat now.

left early

Weaver's meeting last night. I was tired and left after my show and tell. Made a great deal with Kaye. She offered to sell me an extra baby car seat she didn't need any more. In perfect condition, barely used. Now we are ready to roll with both of them when H gets a little older and doesn't need to face backward any more.
More stuff arrived yesterday. Chocolate frogs and singing frogs. Ridiculously silly!
Thank goodness it is Friday.medium_2006-08-16_water-inkjet_transfer.jpg
I've been working on water transfers using inkjet photo images and it is quite interesting. A little haphazard but still working surprisingly well. The image on the right in the scan is the one which wasn't as good that I cut apart to see how much would be lost in a really rough wash with soap and water and vigorous scrubbing with a fingernail brush.
Saturday, we may take an excursion to see the Gee's Bend Quilt Show at the museum. It all depends on coordination of baby, doctor visits, air conditioning in available cars, scheduling, phases of the moon, and how much sleep I get tonight.

wierd working mode

Short work day today. Brunch in the morning to celebrate a birthday at work. A lot of really good food and masses of fresh fruit and donut holes. I made fresh pesto with basil from the garden and piled it on scrambled eggs sitting on top of fresh spinach. Delicious. Then I left early to accompany B to his follow up doctor visit. Waste of time, insurance rules/paperwork issues to work out. But he did get a complete copy of his records from the hospital visit. He's happy with them. medium_2006-08-08_002.jpg
So I got home earlier than usual and with all the wierd scheduling today, I forgot to go to water aerobics - bummer. Only one class left on Thursday. Help me remember to go!
Took advantage of the longer evening at home to work on a couple of projects. Finished another ATC for the European Papers House of Cards II. Waiting for the glue to dry before I can scan and post it. While I was searching through stuff for the ATC, Wendy's ATCs for her mom and dad kept running through my brain. They were so sweet. I happened on a print out of an old photo that someone had sent in a birthday squishie and then I began to pull things out of places that haven't seen light in a long time. More glue drying on a 8x8 art board.
I'm using a painted, stenciled silk scarf piece that I would never have used for this if I hadn't already cut it in half with my eyes closed and sent half to Janene (I think...) for her birthday squishie. My eyes were closed because I couldn't bear to see a perfectly good scarf - with a weak design! - being cut up for no good reason. But I cut it again and glued it down as the background and the rest is history. I'm liking it a lot. Feeling top dollar. And while I was at, pulling things out, I made a pile of lime green and orange stuff to go with some leftover background from another project. Hey, maybe I could make a living at this!
Nah, probably not.
Tomorrow's Wednesday.
