still shopping

So I went shopping last night and again tonight. Finding a few things here and there. Moving faster on my own.
We got our electric bill. Yikes, that is going up again. I should be weaving by candlelight instead of running tree lights and working online.
Got a call during work from a relative I never hear from. She was making her mother's fudge recipe. Have to call her back and see how that batch turned out.

checking 'em off

We're still slogging away at the gift list. And I just realized it's getting quite late to be still wondering what we are giving some people. Brought home huge boxes last night. Impulse purchases. We nixed a couple of ideas for the grandkids based on avoiding hassles for the parents.
You know the ones: drum sets and sand boxes. No one can stand hearing a kid learn to play the drums and sand thrown in your face hurts and shaking a kid down every time they come indoors is just a nightmare. There are some things you just have to let the parents decide on for themselves.

Sewing up some more little handwoven bags like these. These will hold gift cards.
While we were shopping together last night, I bought a book on 007 that will be a door prize donation to the weaving conference in the spring. I shoulda bought it for B and stolen it back after he read it. It's really kind of a nice coffee table book for Bond fans. Should I get buy him another one? No, too gauche, too late.

party duds

So I went to the new Coldwater Creek store and it's a wonderful place. Beautifully designed store, well trained attentive staff, fully stocked with gorgeous clothes. I found two things I can wear with stuff I have for the holiday parties I have to attend this month.
Then to the shoe outlet and found three pair I had to have. Plain brown comfy slides to wear with pants and two pair of these shoes. Mine are black and one has lace inserts instead of the mesh. The other has studs in a swirl pattern on black leather instead of the mesh. I love 'em.
My husband said that my granddaughter will love them, too. In other words, he thinks they look like kiddy shoes. I don't care, they feel great.

better day

Spent more money than yesterday if that is any indication of success in the "getting ready for the holidays" scenario. Stocked the frig. Bagged some gifts and more stuff for ourselves, one of which was Memoirs of a Geisha. We watched it this evening. B said he liked the colors of it. Beautiful movie. Chick flick of course.
The things I bought to wear to a party won't work. The shoes are okay but the rest is going back. More shopping required.
I finished the Three Garbos and our Dark Companion for this month. Rachel began with a very nice watercolor of an eggplant. I am feeling pretty unartistic at the moment. Gluing is about the level of my involvement right now. I have to sort out more stuff and find my muse before I can really get things done.
And of course, I haven't finished the holiday annual letter or addressed the cards yet.

no ho ho ho

We tried, we really tried. Just can't get in the mood to buy stuff. Most everyone in our extended families are doing well in life and have what they need and most of what they want. Their homes are beautiful and full of stuff. I bought one clothing gift for someone. You can always buy clothes for those who are outgrowing theirs daily. We got an idea for MIL, and have a store in mind to go for it, just not today. A consumable item she will like.
Then we listened to performances in the mall. A fun group of singers doing creative renditions old favorites with lots of choreography. The best dancing was done by the toddlers in the audience who were captivated by the performance. Then we bought CDs of Peruvian pan pipe music performed in another corner of the mall by a couple of gentlemen who played their traditional music and instruments with great emotion. They also do a lot of modern American melodies. We picked out one CD of each type. Shopping for gifts for ourselves!
We talked about just doing gift cards for restaurants for everyone. We all like to eat out once in a while. It's a nice gesture. And I decided to make it more special by putting the cards into something small that is handmade. Makes me feel better about the gift card idea which is not very personal.
