book of days

This blank book is worth a fortune. A gift from a friend because when I saw it and admired it, she could tell from the gleam in my eye that I had already dreamed of what I would do with it. Of course, I had no firm plans, just dreams. She said she'd had the book for years and only used it to press wildflowers. It sat for a few months on my desk, too, waiting for me to begin.

A very thick, large scale book, at first I thought it called out for a big flamboyant gesture. But in reality, I want to use it as a everyday kind of a journal. It sits on the drop spot near the back door and my plan is to put every stray thing that crosses my path into the book. I will encourage my granddaughter to draw and glue into it as well. It will be layered with stuff and will take us a long time to fill.

The name of the book is a history of Potosi, a city in Bolivia. There is a saying in Spanish, valer un potosi which means to be worth a fortune. The highest city in the world, Potosi is located near a mountain of silver.

wobbly beginning

I can see more that I want to when I look at things this enlarged....I need to run a thread through all the beads to pull them into line around the clay piece.

selection

Here is the printed color card from the Take it Further Challenge shown with the items from my stash that I will use to create a beaded square. Surprisingly I had more purple stuff that worked than Green! In a sense I'm also doing a bit of a tribute to someone I looked up to - my gram would have had safety pins and ribbons and bits of things in her apron pocket on any given day. She picked things up as she went and sorted them out (or not...) later.

The center color is not really pink but lavendar. I tried taking a photo of the beads out of the plastic tubes, but those photos aren't even as color correct as this one seems to me on my monitor. I edited out one tube as being too red violet instead of blue violet. The heart shaped piece has some other colors worked into it - it's a polymer clay piece I made from scraps and so it really belongs in here, too.

I have enough to cover a huge area... so more editing will happen as I go along. The reason I'm working small - other than the obvious one of being able to finish in a month is also that there is a another challenge that this fits into - crossing off two items on my list with one project. Is that wrong?

first theme for TIF

Sharon has posted the theme(s): someone I look up to or a color scheme of variations on purple and greens.

The color scheme appeals to me. Don't know how I would interpret a person I look up to. Printed out the color scheme so I can really look at it in relation to my stash - see if that makes sense. My personal challenge for Take it Further - for me, that means, taking my stash further - either using it, sharing it or pitching it.

There's also a flicker group set up but I don't know if I *have* to sign up for that, too, or not. I have enough on my plate as it is.
